Shopify operations

A successful image upload is not the same as a verified catalog.

Transfer tools answer “Did the file move?” Catalog teams still need to answer “Did the right asset reach the right product and role?”

Where matching breaks

Real product libraries contain retired SKUs, alternate punctuation, descriptive filenames, duplicate exports, variant photos, and “final” revisions. A filename match can therefore be technically successful and operationally wrong.

A reliable pre-import sequence

  1. Export the authoritative active SKU list.
  2. Inventory every candidate image without changing the originals.
  3. Normalize comparison keys while retaining original filenames.
  4. Match only deterministic SKU and role patterns automatically.
  5. Detect identical file content with checksums.
  6. Hold multiple plausible matches in a decision queue.
  7. Generate channel-ready copies from approved matches.
  8. Reconcile output counts back to the active SKU list.

Three checks worth keeping

Coverage

How many active SKUs have every required asset role?

Uniqueness

Does each required role have one approved asset rather than several competing candidates?

Traceability

Can someone connect every output back to its untouched source file and matching rule?
